I trust that you have all had a wonderful winter wherever you decided to spend it. My wife and I love the mountains, so we spent much of our time in Idaho, Wyoming and Montana. We are glad to be back on the lake shore and looking forward to the warmer weather ahead and seeing all of our friends back here along the shore.
While Winter months can be quiet, there are always a lot of things that are in the works behind the scenes in our Lake Shore Community. Here are a few things that happened:
- Ferry Street Sink Hole- Progress has been made on the re-construction of the culvert on Ferry Street. I am happy to share that the City expects to have Ferry Street back open before Memorial Day weekend. Many along Lakeshore Drive and Campbell Rd will be happy to see the traffic get back to a reasonable level. Read all about the update in this week’s Commercial Record. https://wilcoxnewspapers.com/ferry-street-could-reopen-by-next-week/
- A New Lakeshore Overlay District Zoning was passed by Saugatuck township. This is a new zoning ordinance which will affect all properties in the township west of lakeshore Dr. See the township ordinance here: https://saugatucktownshipmi.gov/saugatuck-township-approves-new-overlay-zoning-ordinance-to-combat-coastal-erosion/
- Saugatuck Township has also finished an in-depth safety plan for the Blue Star Hwy corridor. Read about it here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Azd8gLCVkNLywaZKj9xFKTbakK9f2ZKb/view?pli=1
- Many DLSA Members ask about the Future Plan for Lakeshore Dr. The Township has completed the feasibility study and has an overall plan on the township web page. See the link here for more details: https://saugatucktownshipmi.gov/projects/future-projects/lakeshore-drive-managed-retreat-project/
We have many links to the local governments web sites on the www.douglaslakeshoreassociatio.org web site. Just look under the Resources tab for local links to these pages. Please visit them often and stay up to date on what’s happening in your communities.

It will again be hosted at the Windwood Lane Barn at the Lefley’s homestead off Lakeshore Drive. We will again be entertained by Joe Bounodono and The DB Horns. A Potluck Alert will be sent out as we get closer to the date, so you know what to bring.
